Loud closing sliding doors disrupt therapy sessions in autism clinic

An autism clinic in Ontario recently enhanced its facility by installing DICTATOR door dampers on all six sliding doors of their therapy rooms to reduce noise disturbances. This change aims to create a more comfortable environment for therapy sessions for children with autism.

An initial attempt to solve the problem involved adding padded cushions to the sliding tracks. Two large glass doors opening outwards form the access to the windy passage between these two company buildings in Starnberg. During strong gusts of wind, the doors – despite their overhead door closers – were often torn out of the users’ hands in an uncontrolled manner and slammed open. The consequences: Damage to the hardware, defective doors and broken glass panes – not to mention the safety hazards for people near the doors.

During the repair of a damaged door, DICTATOR back checks were installed on each door. This put an end to doors slamming open, because it reliably decelerates the door if the opening speed is too high. It can also be retrofitted on doors with an existing overhead door closer without any problems.

This 3.5 m wide, 1.75 m high and 160 kg heavy entrance gate to a camping site turned out to be a nuisance because it was frequently not closed properly. It would get caught in the wind and repeatedly hit the steel post very loudly. Therefore, the client looked for a gate closer that would close the door gently and smoothly, while still ensuring that the door closed completely every time.

The technical department at DICTATOR welcomes such challenges. The solution was the DIREKT gate closer, although the standard version is only intended for hinged doors up to 1.5 m wide. A special version with a stroke of 300 mm in combination with a special bracket provided by the customer for exact compliance with the fixing points calculated by us now ensures peace and quiet at the camping site.
